Sustainability- The Language of Business
Quality Times, July 2002

The newspapers today are full of reports of corporate collapses. Enron, Anderson, Marconi and Swissair are but a few examples. While there could be many reasons for these collapses the overriding factor for the downfall was their short-term approach to businesses. Sustainability is a concept that makes individuals and organizations look beyond their nose and at the overall impact of their business on people, markets, environment and society.
What is Sustainability?
The term sustainability is derived from "Sustainable Development" which was defined by the 198 UN World Commission on Environment and Development as:
"Meeting the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs".
