Palampur
Palampur is easily accessible by road, rail & air. It
is 530 km north of Delhi on National High-way 20. You can drive
via Chandigarh - Anandpur Sahib - Nangal - Una - Kangra. There
are several overnight trains from New Delhi to Pathankot from
where Palampur is 3 hours drive. You can also fly every Monday.
Wednesday & Friday from Delhi to Gaggal which is one hour
drive from Palampur.
The
town of Palampur came into being when Dr. Jameson, Superintendent
Botanical Gardens, North-West Frontier Province. introduced
the tea bush from Almora in 1849. The bush thrived and so did
the town which became a focus of the European tea estate owners.
Palampur can serve as the fulcrum for excursions further afield.
You can visit the Tibetan monestry at Bir and carry on to Billing,
arguably the finest site for hang and para gliding in the country. Himachal
